Pedestal

Pedestal is an offset used to separate the black level from the blanking level by a small amount. When a video system doesn't use a pedestal, the black and blanking levels are the same. (M) NTSC uses a pedestal, (B, D, G, H, I) PAL does not. (M) NTSC-J used in Japan also does not use a pedestal.
